Last year, the Golden Ears Gift Shop successfully raised $35,000 in proceeds.
These funds were used to purchase a Fetal Monitor for the Maternity department. This device enables continuous fetal monitoring for laboring women and promptly alerts healthcare providers to emergencies, thereby protecting both mother and infant. In many care settings, continuous fetal monitoring is required for laboring patients and is also valuable during outpatient clinic visits and emergency triage when indicated, as it facilitates timely nursing assessment and escalation to a physician to mitigate potential harm.
The Auxiliary’s Legacy
The Ridge Meadows Hospital Gift Shop has been a cornerstone of the hospital for many years. From snacks to gifts, the Gift Shop has been a source of comfort and joy for many. Run by dedicated volunteers from the Auxiliary, the Gift Shop has provided patients, visitors, and staff with a variety of items to brighten their day.
The Auxiliary was formed in 1953, five years before Ridge Meadows Hospital opened its doors. A small group of ladies from the community approached local and provincial governments about the need for a hospital in Maple Ridge. Their influence was instrumental in making Ridge Meadows Hospital a reality. We are reminded of the legacy and commitment of the dedicated individuals who have played a vital role in their organization’s history. The Auxiliary’s contributions to patient care, equipment purchases, and community programs have had a lasting impact on our hospital and the community at large. While the Auxiliary will no longer be a formal society, they will be continuing to volunteer at the hospital gift shop. With over a million dollars raised for patient care and essential equipment, the Auxiliary’s legacy is one of generosity and compassion. We honor their legacy and thank them for their unwavering support of patient care and the hospital community. The hard work and commitment of the Gift Shop Volunteers continue to make a difference in the lives of those at Ridge Meadows Hospital.
Here’s to many more years of dedication and service from the incredible volunteers who make the Gift Shop a special place for all.
