Ways to Give › Leave a gift in my will

A planned gift lets you take care of your family while ensuring your community health care providers have the most up-to-date lifesaving equipment to continue to provide excellence in health care.

You can choose to support a specific department, piece of equipment, or an area of greatest need. The decision about your gift can be made now, but the transfer usually happens in the future.

When including a gift to Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation in your will or other legal document, it is extremely important that you use our correct full legal name and charitable registration information:

Bequest of Cash or Estate Percentage

A cash gift of specific amount or a gift of all, or a portion, of the estate’s residue can be left to the Foundation in your will. Your estate will receive a charitable tax receipt for the value of the gift, which can be used to offset up to 100% of your net income on your terminal tax return. Additionally, any unused tax credit may be carried back to reduce taxes paid in the year prior to death.

Gift of RRSP / RRIFs

You can designate the Foundation as the beneficiary of part or all of what is left of your registered funds (RRSPs, RRIFs). At death, all assets in an RRSP or RRIF if not designated to a beneficiary will be taxed as income on your final tax return. By naming the Foundation as the beneficiary of your tac-free savings account, you will save probate fees on the amount and receive a tax receipt for the value of the gift.

Gift of Life Insurance

A gift of life insurance—whether it is a Paid-Up Life Insurance Policy, a Partially-Paid Existing Policy, or you name the Foundation as the beneficiary of a policy—is a worthwhile and cost-effective alternative to a cash gift. The best option for you will depend on whether you wish to receive a tax credit during your lifetime or at your death.
