On December 18, Drive for the Cure presented a multi-year commitment cheque to the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation, totaling $100,000. Since 2004, Drive for the Cure has been a powerful ally in supporting cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment at Ridge Meadows Hospital, and this latest gift continues that important tradition.
What the funds will support This year’s generous donation will be directed toward acquiring Magseed, an advanced breast cancer localization system. Magseed is a tiny, implantable magnetic seed that marks the location of breast lesions. The technology is designed to significantly improve the accuracy, efficiency, and comfort of surgical procedures for patients dealing with breast cancer or other non-palpable breast lesions.
Why Magseed matters
- Precision: Magseed enables surgeons to locate non-palpable lesions with greater accuracy.
- Efficiency: The system can streamline surgical workflows, potentially reducing operative times.
- Comfort: By improving localization, Magseed can lessen the need for more invasive approaches, contributing to a better patient experience.
- Broader impact: Beyond breast cancer, this localization method can assist with other non-palpable lesions, expanding its clinical usefulness.
Driving a difference in patient care Drive for the Cure’s ongoing mission is making a tangible difference in the lives of patients and their families. By supporting cutting-edge tools like Magseed, the foundation is helping pave the way for advanced cancer research and improved healthcare at Ridge Meadows Hospital.
